On imitation

In the 30 years of reform and opening up, China's equipment manufacturing industry has grown in difficulties and made remarkable achievements. There are praises and doubts about these achievements. Among those doubts, the voice that the Chinese can only imitate is particularly harsh. As far as the equipment manufacturing industry is concerned, how should we look at the issue of imitation? Our views are as follows:

First of all, imitation is a necessary stage for the development of equipment manufacturing industry in developing countries. Throughout the history of industrial development of all countries in the world, this is the case. The most typical example is Japan, which started by imitating European cars. There's no shame in it. If I want to build a car, of course I don't have to start with studying how to build wheels. Other people's experience can be used. The development of human wisdom and civilization is inherited. The so-called stand on the shoulders of giants to see further, that is the truth.

Second, imitation is not piracy, not a crime. Whether in the world or in China, the protection of intellectual property rights by law is real. The recent spate of iPad trademark cases and Jordan trademark cases fully show that even in China at this stage, the protection of trademarks, patents and other intellectual property rights by law is in place. In this case, it is very difficult for an enterprise to produce and sell products that infringe others' intellectual property rights, especially in the equipment manufacturing industry.

Thirdly, imitation is not the goal. If an enterprise wants to grow, it can never stay in the stage of imitation. It must have the desire and ability to innovate. We should learn from Japanese automobile enterprises and truly surpass them.

Take our company as an example, our blister packaging machine has fully absorbed and utilized the design experience of several similar products in Europe under the condition of paying a lot of financial and material resources and market share, and has basically reached the corresponding level in quality and performance. At the same time, we have developed a new independent product: automatic translation sealing machine. Starting from imitation, growing in improvement and relying on innovation, our company is moving forward along such a right path.
